quantumj4k Disclaimer: I know and sometimes hang out with Russ Kent.

Nevertheless I was floored by the quality of the two songs. I don't listen to a lot of stoner/psych rock, but this is expertly composed and executed. Love the moog solo followed by a guitar solo that later intertwines with the moog in "Death of a New Day", and the cover of Eye in the Sky is equally excellent. Favorite track: Death of a New Day.

Death of a new day dawning Beset by the toll blood on the cold horizon But onward we go we’re marching on And I’ve finally seen the light Went from blindness to foresight Found what’s lost I’m sure I know Time was wastin’ in my bones Death of a new day dawning The means to an end A shadow that leaves no warnin no way to pretend you won’t be saved And through the years of yearnin’ A trial of souls! At war with a faceless vermin Forever we row we’re marching’ on Soiled boots wade through the fog Yeah we’ve hungered for too long Destination parts unknown Gold was spun and seeds were sown Restitution shall be mine Sweet redemption so divine A new chapter will be forged To the vanquished lay the torch Death of a new day dawning Beset by the toll blood on the cold horizon But onward we go we’re marching on

Don't think sorry's easily said
 Don't try turning tables instead
You've taken lots of Chances before
But I'm not gonna give anymore
 Don't ask me
 That's how it goes
Cause part of me knows what you're thinkin' Don't say words you're gonna regret
Don't let the fire rush to your head
I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me
 The sun in your Eyes
made some of the lies worth believing I am the eye in the sky
Looking at you
 I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
 Dealing with fools
I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind, I can read your mind Don't leave false illusions behind
Don't cry cause I ain't changing my mind
So find another fool like before
Cause I ain't gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving I am the eye in the sky
 Looking at you
I can read your mind
I am the maker of rules
 Dealing with fools
 I can cheat you blind
And I don't need to see any more
To know that
I can read your mind, I can read your mind

about

The Metal Observer album of the month, June 2019:
"This honour could have easily gone to either The Lord Weird Slough Feg, Slomatics, or even Nebula, but it is the long awaited return of Oakland’s High Tone Son of a Bitch which cinches the top spot. A transcendental ode to grief whilst scaling celestial heights never before reached by the band, Death of a New Day / Eye in the Sky sits atop the pinnacle of not just psychedelic music but of musicianship across every spectrum. The first new music since the death of Drew Kott, this duo of soulful and intricate tapestries flourish and leave their smouldering mark on your soul for days on end; the cover of The Alan Parsons Project “Eye in the Sky” alone hits like a truck right here * points at chest to signify heart * with its electrifying Sonny Reinhardt appearance and dual vocal majesty from Russ Kent and Scott Wagner. It’s brief, but beyond mesmerising." - Jamie Cansdale, The Metal Observer

After Paul's brother Andrew died tragically in 2008, High Tone Son of a Bitch's hiatus seemed to become a permanent end. Now, nearly 15 years after recording "Velocipede", HTSoB return phoenix-like from the ashes of despair to deliver their most epic, heavy, and psychedelic work to-date. Legendary engineer and producer Billy Anderson (Sleep, High on Fire, Pallbearer, etc.) returns once again to breathe fire into the band's vision, in one of the heaviest productions of 2019.

In honor of Andrew's memory and to give the band a proper reboot, longtime collaborators and friends all joined together with the current line-up to create "Death of a New Day / Eye in the Sky". Dave Edwardson (Neurosis, Kicker) returns on Moog synth as he did on "Better You Than Me". Sonny Reinhardt (Necrot, Saviours) trades off electric, intricate leads with HTSoB's new guitar player, Chris Corona. And Scott Wagner, who sang on "Better You Than Me" teams up with Russ Kent to lay down epic vocal harmonies and doubles.
