And your preconception Is just a nothing notion You’re predisposed to the evils of my concocted potion Someone tell the patient It’s time to increase dilation Can’t ignore the inklings of another frozen viking To die Got news for the sun And odes for the sky, yeah Ten mountain high So give me somethin’ to chew on A bottle of guts and some juice, son Open up the entry to your soul Raise a simple toast To the hunt and the feast and the roast Propensity to fly Cause I felt so high, yeah Yeah, son Got news for the sun And odes for the sky, yeah Ten mountain high Ten mountain high Yeah So check your revelations And concentrate sensations The rafters hollow in your mind, well there’s salt and there’s brine, yeah Raise a simple toast To the hunt and the feast and the roast Propensity to fly Cause I felt so high, yeah Yeah, son Got news for the sun And odes for the sky, yeah Ten mountain high Ten mountain high

Simple belief Simple ways Seems to defeat All your faith Seek to believe Faith is blind Seek to decree All I find One way ride Trust your sight Fortune’s Crown I throw down Thought about sinking Thought about stealin’ inside for savin’ Coulda been runnin’ Coulda been runnin’ away for haven Must’ve been wastin’ Must’ve been wastin’ away for losing All for losing All for losing Lose for losing’s sake Lose for losing’s sake Thought about sinking Thought about stealin’ inside for savin’ Coulda been runnin’ Coulda been runnin’ away for haven Must’ve been wastin’ Must’ve been wastin’ away for losin’ All for losin’ All for losin’ Lose for losing’s sake Lose for losing’s sake One way ride Trust your sight Fortune’s Crown I threw down

Last Dance 05:54
Do-si-do Hell, said fuck no Side to side More danger lies Help yourself to more of nothing It’s plain to see your conscience bluffing Tap your toes Soul come calling Even though you know it’s all in The way you lose your head for lying And I’m afraid this dance is dying Maybe you thought you knew the words to A song you thought I wrote Get your bucket and get your boots And bail some water on out of this boat If I was only buyin’ The reason you’re supplyin’ I’d be just another victim of circumstance Demons don’t believe in The bullshit that you’re preachin’ But they’ll gladly take you up on your last dance Your last dance

about

"Better You Than Me" is the first release from this San Francisco and Oakland, CA band. It was released in 2003, and was the only recorded material to be officially released on a physical format prior to the death of co-founding brother Andrew Kott. It's an solid, epic stoner rock album, not as darkly psychedelic, or as doom metal-tinged as HTSOB's second album, "Velocipede", which was recorded prior to Andrew's death but was not released until 2018. "Better You Than Me" is notable in part for it's connection to the legacy of a number of other notable Bay Area bands, and for the participation of Neurosis bass player Dave Edwardson on Moog synthesizer on the outro of the final song "Last Dance". The guitar riffs and melodic vocals are all catchy and heavy, but it's the odd timings, unique leads, and epic rhythm section that set the songwriting on this album apart from a typical stoner rock band. The original core of HTSOB, Paul Kott and his late brother Andrew Kott, along with founding bass player Ron Nichols, teamed up on this record with drummer Andee Conners of legendary underground record label Tumult. Andee was known for his hard hitting yet eclectic, complex style in previous bands like A Minor Forest. On vocals, the band brought in Portland, OR transplant Scott Wagner. Scott's vocal power helped set the band apart from their contemporaries at the time the album came out. "Better You Than Me" was released by Shifty Records and Unknown Controller in the United States, and by Spain's Throne Records in Europe. HTSOB toured with the Oakland sludge metal trio Brainoil on the West Coast of the United States to support the release of the EP.
